Russellville police solve identity theft case

An identity theft case that had been ongoing since Jan. 1 is now being wrapped up, with one suspect in the Department of Corrections facing an upcoming grand jury and a second suspect in the Franklin County Jail.

Connie Denise Green, 43, Russellville, was arrested Jan. 1 after the Russellville Police Department initiated an investigation into a victim’s suspicious bank account activity.

According to Sgt. Jake Tompkins, the victim was notified by her financial establishment that there was suspicious activity going on with her account. When she looked into it, she discovered that her information, such as address and telephone number, had been changed.

“After we initiated the investigation, we made the connection to Connie, and investigators picked her up and interviewed her,” Tompkins said.

Tompkins said Green admitted to stealing the identity of the victim, and after a lengthy investigation, Tompkins said he was able to link the crime to Scott Hawkins, who was and still is in the Department of Corrections.

“We got all of the recordings of their interactions over the phone and were able to identify Hawkins,” Tompkins said.

Green allegedly received the information that led her to the identity theft from Hawkins.

According to Tompkins, Hawkins will be up on the next grand jury list and has active warrants on him now.

Green was charged with identity theft and is in the Franklin County Jail.
