Prepare for severe weather with tax holiday Feb. 23-25
Alabama’s seventh annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday will be held Feb. 23-25. Alabamians are encouraged to stock up on a variety of supplies for protecting their homes or businesses during Alabama’s tornado and hurricane seasons, with a number of items excluded from sales tax during this weekend.
The Alabama Department of Revenue has compiled a list of all cities and counties participating in the 2018 Severe Weather Preparedness Tax Holiday. Franklin County and local municipalities are among those participating.
Examples of items covered under the Severe Weather Preparedness holiday include most batteries, two-way radios and weather radios, flashlights, tarps and other protective sheeting, bungee cords, duct tape, plywood, water coolers, ice packs, fire extinguishers, first aid kids, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, gas or diesel tanks and portable generators and power cords costing $1,000 or less.
