Water systems for Rockwood, Isbell disband

After a postponement because of winter weather, the Franklin County Commission held its first meeting Jan. 22.

Citizens who were using the Rockwood and Isbell water systems should know the two systems have disbanded and been absorbed by the Russellville Utilities water system. At the meeting, the commission approved two resolutions, one from Rockwood to disband and one from Isbell to disband.

Probate Judge Barry Moore said these systems were already buying their water from Russellville Utilities, but the billing and maintenance was being handled by Frank Bishop.

“I think it was more feasible for them to transfer that over to Russellville,” Moore said.

The commission also:

  • approved the termination of Miles Anthony Allen from the solid waste department and granted permission to hire a temporary employee
  • approved the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office to follow through with a new phone system and equipment from Ambit Solutions based out of Hoover. It will cost $7,337 to install the new equipment and lines, but the monthly payment will be $431.21, which Moore said is a great deal less than the current monthly payment.
  • approved the promotion of Shane Oliver from a corrections officer to a sergeant at the sheriff’s office, effective Jan. 14
  • approved the budget amendment for the State and Community Highway Budget Program
  • established a line of credit for $500,000 through Community Spirit Bank at a 2.48 percent fixed rate. Moore said the county probably won’t have to use the credit, but it is there in case it is needed for the industrial access Mar-Jac project.
