Truck crashes into Russellville residence

On the afternoon of Jan. 27, two Russellville residents received a surprise visitor when a vehicle crashed through the front of their house.

According to Russellville Police Department Sgt. Jake Tompkins, officers responded to the 400 block of East Lawrence Street and found a blue Toyota pickup truck had wrecked into the front door of a residence.

“It was halfway in and halfway out of the residence,” Tompkins said.

When the officers arrived, the driver, Jorge Otzoy Cactzun, 46, of Russellville had fled the scene. Patrol officers interviewed witnesses and confirmed that Cactzun had left on foot, and it wasn’t long before they located him.

According to Tompkins, a family member of Cactzun helped them locate the driver at his residence on the 700 block of North Jackson Street.

“Our patrol officers did a good job handling this case,” Tompkins said.

Once they located the suspect, they discovered he had injuries that were consistent with the wreck and said they were able to determine that he was the driver. They then had to seek medical attention for him because of a head injury, and they released him to the hospital with plans to pick him up as soon as he is cleared medically.

“We believe that he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, so when he wrecked, his head might have either hit the windshield or the rearview mirror,” Tompkins said.

Tompkins said Cactzun will most likely be charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of the accident, with additional charges possible.

Officers were able to obtain evidence that proved the driver was under the influence at the time of the accident, according to Tompkins.

Neither resident in the house at the time of the accident was injured.
