BHS, RBHS triumph in FC contests

By Bart Moss / For the FCT

Belgreen 69, Tharptown 50

Mason Bragwell and Seth Taylor combined for 48 points to lead the Belgreen Bulldogs past the Tharptown Wildcats 69-50 last week in an area contest.

It was the first meeting between the two rivals this year.

Both teams got off to a hot start with Belgreen taking a slim 19-18 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs got some breathing room in the second quarter, outscoring Tharptown 18-7 to take a 37-25 halftime lead. The Wildcats held their own in the third quarter, cutting Belgreen’s lead to ten points, 46-36, at the end of the third quarter. Belgreen put the game away with a 23-point fourth quarter.

Bragwell led the Bulldogs with 25 points. Taylor followed with 23 points. Payton Scott added eight points, and Jacob Mayberrry finished with four points. Graven Taylor, Eli Hiser, and Jake Taylor competed the game with three points. Shooting guard Brant Bragwell sat out the game nursing a knee injury.

Cole Daniel led Tharptown with 21 points. Levi McCormack followed with 15 points. Edward Lopez finished the game with seven points, Carson Petree with five points and Winston Nolen with two points.

B-Varsity Boys: Belgreen 50, Tharptown 42

The Belgreen Bulldogs also defeated the Tharptown Wildcats 50-42 in the B-Varsity boys game.

Scout Bragwell led Belgreen with 25 points. Ruben Alfaro led Tharptown with 12 points.

Red Bay 52, Phil Campbell 48

Colton Corum broke open a tight game for the Red Bay Tigers last week, as they defeated cross-county rival Phil Campbell in an area contest 52-48.

Corum hit three three-pointers in the third quarter to give the Tigers the separation they needed to hold off the Bobcats.

Red Bay led Phil Campbell 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. Phil Campbell cut the Tigers’ lead to one point at halftime, 26-25.

Red Bay extended their lead to 41-33 in the third quarter, thanks to Corum’s perimeter shooting. Phil Campbell was not ready to concede, however, as Peyton Thomas scored nine of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to keep the Bobcats within striking range.

Gath Weatherford led Red Bay with 15 points. Corum added 11 points. Braden Ray finished the game with nine points, Hunter Bays with five points, Noah Brewer with four points, Peyton Green with four points, Clay Allison with three points and Jalen Vinson with one point.

Thomas led the Bobcats with 22 points. He was followed by Joe Hardy with eight points and Nate Owens with six points. Daniel Smith, Rhett Benford and Brodie Nix chipped in four points each.

B-Varsity Boys: Phil Campbell 44, Red Bay 43

The Phil Campbell Bobcats squeaked out a nail-bitter in the B-Varsity boys game, winning 44-43.

J Mansell led the Bobcats with 16 points. Lane Shewbart led Red Bay with 13 points.
