Velmar Welch Parrish

Velmar Welch Parrish, age 86, of Haleyville, passed away Nov. 27 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Parrish was a strong woman who loved her children and her grandchildren. She was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church.

The visitation was from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 28 at Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville. The funeral will be at noon Nov. 29 at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Chris Sherrill and Bro. Andy Hutto speaking. Burial will be at Spruce Pine Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Odell Parrish; two sons, Gene Parrish and Jimmy Parrish; daughter, Betty McCaig; three grandsons; one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; parents, Frances Marion and Ellen Welch; three brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by her children, Stan Parrish (Stephanie), Steve Parrish (Donna), Rickey Parrish, Lois Odom and Teresa Sumner (Sterling); 26 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; brother, James Earl “Bug” Welch (Bertha); and a host of nieces and nephews.

The pallbearers will be Justin Farr, Andrew Farr, Gary Odom, Eric Parrish, Steven Parrish, Landon Parrish, Jeremy Parrish and Paul Prince.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and chaplain of Keller Hospice and especially to Mrs. Grace for the love and care of our mother.
