RPD arrests one for child endangerment
Oct. 20 the Russellville Police Department was called to do a welfare check that later ended in arrest for a Russellville woman.
Brittany Barnett was possibly in labor at the time RPD was called. According to Sgt. Jake Tompkins, when RPD arrived on the scene, Barnett had already been transported to the hospital.
Oct. 23, RPD was notified by Franklin County DHR that the baby had been delivered but had tested positive for methamphetamine.
“We conducted an investigation into the results and found that the baby had indeed tested positive,” Tompkins said.
That same day Barnett was taken into custody.
“We discovered Barnett had for sure consumed methamphetamine while she was pregnant with the child,” Tompkins said.
She was charged with chemical endangerment of a child and has a $7,500 bond, according to Tompkins.
As of Oct. 27 the baby had exhibited no signs of withdrawal or injury.
“The baby seems to be in good condition and is very fortunate,” Tompkins said.
