Curtis D. Bishop

Curtis D. Bishop, 80, passed away Oct. 18. He was a recent resident at Persimmon Ridge in Portland, Ind. Previously he had lived in the Winchester, Daleville and Anderson, Ind., areas. He was born in Russellville and lived both there and in Detroit, Mich.

Curt served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962 and was honorably discharged.

Curt was employed as a truck driver by Marsh Supermarkets and was a Teamster (Local 135). Whether at work, with family, or chatting with strangers, Curt enjoyed making others smile and telling jokes. He always said, “I just like to see people happy, and if I can make someone smile, I like that.” He was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and IU basketball, and he enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

He was married to Judith (Welborn) DeLong, the mother of his children, and later married Suzzanne (Ball) Bishop, who preceded him in death in 1991. His parents were Dorothy and Joel Bishop. He is survived by his son, Brian Bishop (La Mesa, Calif.); twin daughters Kerry Bishop (Robert Audler) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Kristie Bishop (Michelle McBrite) of West Lafayette, Ind.; grandson Matthew Olson (San Diego, Calif.), and Matthew’s mother Tricia Olson, who was like a daughter-in-law to him. He is also survived by his sister Marian Holt and niece Kay (Ron) Head (both of Strongsville, Ohio). His current wife Ruby also survives.

Curt enjoyed animals as well as helping others. Accordingly, donations may be made to an animal shelter or rescue of your choice or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The family would like to thank the caring and dedicated staff in Patriot Hall at Persimmon Ridge and Kathy Hanson of The Hospice Group.

Services will be held at the Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 8212 S. Walnut St., in Daleville, Ind., Oct. 21. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a short graveside service at Saunders Cemetery, east of Daleville, at 1 p.m., where Curt will be laid to rest.
