Local martial arts studio brings home awards

Every year the World Tang Soo Do Association hosts a tournament in which Russellville’s own Tang Soo Do studio participates. This year the Region 6 tournament, which includes Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee, was held in Huntsville.

“We trained for about a month for this tournament, and it was a great experience,” Jones said.

Several local Tang Soo Do students brought back medals, and the team achieved the Grand Champion Cup for the senior female division.

Deryll Banning earned bronze medals for empty hand form and weapons form. Dale Galloway earned a gold medal for empty hand form, a silver medal for sparring and a bronze medal for weapons form. Nick Galloway earned gold medals for empty hand form and sparring and a silver medal for weapons form. Amanda Galloway earned bronze medals for empty hand form and weapons form.

Jarrett Bagget earned a gold medal for weapons form. Mary Beth Fisher earned gold medals for weapons form and sparring and a silver medal for empty hand form. Susanne Belew earned gold medals for empty hand form and sparring and a bronze medal for weapons form.

“I’m proud of all of them and for the fact that we had participants from the age of 7 all the way up 70,” Jones said.

He said participants ranged from white belt up to third degree black belt.

All American Tang Soo Do is located at American Health and Fitness Center in Russellville. Classes are held Monday and Thursday, 3:30-4:30 p.m. for basic/youth and 4:30-5:30 p.m. for advanced/adults.
