A Look Ahead
By Bart Moss for the FCT
Phil Campbell hosts Sulligent (homecoming)
Last year: Sulligent won 42-7
Record: 1-3 (0-2)
Coach Ryan Swinney: “Sulligent is going to be a lot like the last two teams we’ve played: big and athletic. They have athletes all over the field. Their running back, Metcalf, is very quick. They run a double wing look with a full back, and they run downhill. They have speed on the edge and lean on their run game.”
Red Bay hosts Belmont (Miss.)
Last year: Red Bay won 21-13
Record: 2-2 (1-1)
Coach Michael Jackson: “Belmont is always a big game for us. They have some momentum with two big wins in Mississippi. There is a lot of hoopla surrounding this game. Belmont will be the biggest team we will face all year. They have an offensive and defensive line with guys weighing 280-290 and standing at 6’4”. They have two running backs – Will Pharr and Parker Bowling – we have faced for two years. They do a good job of hanging onto the football.”
Russellville at Mae Jemison
Last year: Russellville won 21-20
Record: 0-3 (0-2)
Coach Mark Heaton: “This is going to be another big region game. We need to keep it close so we can have a chance to win it late. Mae Jemison has great size and speed. We have to minimize our mistakes and force some turnovers early.”
Vina hosts Cherokee (homecoming)
Last year: Cherokee won 27-20
Record: 0-4 (0-2)
Coach Jason Harris: “Offensively, Cherokee is very fast. They have one of the best quarterbacks in our region. They run multiple spread formations. Defensively, they have good speed and get to the ball quickly. They are disciplined and well-coached on both sides of the ball.”
Tharptown: off this week
Record: 1-3 (1-1)
