Court sets trial date for Shannon Gargis

Following a status conference and pre-trial conference Friday, new information is available in the pending trial of Shannon Dale Gargis.

According to the Franklin County District Attorney’s office, a judge’s order has set the trial for Gargis, who in March 2016 was charged with capital murder, for April 2018.

Gargis was charged after 22-month-old Serenity was found dead with visible trauma at mother Hailey Renfroe’s Phil Campbell residence. Gargis, Renfroe’s boyfriend, was charged with capital murder, while she was charged with aggravated child abuse.

In July 2017, charges against Renfroe were settled; she pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution first degree and agreed to cooperate and give truthful testimony during the upcoming trial of Gargis.

In addition to setting the trial for April 2018, a schedule was also set Friday with deadlines for motions to be filed and discovery to be completed.

Gargis is expected to be tried in Franklin County.
