Times adds staff writer

The Franklin County Times is pleased to announce the expansion of its news staff with the addition of a second reporter.

The Times last week welcomed Lauren Wester to Franklin County News operations.

Wester was born and raised in Gadsden and graduated cum laude from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in communications.

During her last semester at JSU, Wester interned as a reporter with “The Jacksonville News.” After her internship was completed, she continued at the newspaper for a short time as a freelance reporter.

It was after taking a few communications classes Wester began to consider a career in journalism, and her internship experience solidified her interest in the journalism field. “I’ve always enjoyed writing, and journalism gives me the chance to express that creativity in a new and different way,” Wester said.

Wester said is excited to take this next step in her career after spending the summer job hunting. “I am happy to have found my new home in Franklin County.”

General manager Nicole Pell said Wester is a welcome addition to the FCT news staff. “With Lauren on board, we look forward to being able to broaden and deepen our coverage of Russellville, Red Bay, Phil Campbell and our other Franklin County communities,” Pell said. “Lauren brings fresh energy and enthusiasm to our office, and we know she will do great work here.”

Managing editor Alison James echoed Pell’s sentiments. “In just her first few days on the job, Lauren is already making contacts and becoming familiar with the communities we serve. I would encourage anyone to call her with news and story ideas.”

James will shift her focus to the Time’s bimonthly magazine, Franklin Living, as well as the company’s special publications, while Wester will prioritize her focus on the weekly newspaper editions.

To reach Wester, call the office at 256-332-1881 or email her at lauren.wester@fct.wpengine.com.
