County wraps July with short meeting
After a public hearing on vacating a portion of Jackson Military Road, the Franklin County Commission held its regular monthly meeting Monday morning.
The commission addressed a short agenda, quickly approving:
- a budget amendment in the EMA department, taking into account additional federal funds received for hazard mitigation, for storm shelters.
- $13,678 for fire alarm repair in the sheriff’s office.
- plans to move forward in applying for a COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) grant through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs to provide SROs in the county schools. “This grant will probably not be awarded until October,” Probate Judge Barry Moore said.
- support of a UNA application to the Economic Development Administration.
The county commission also approved to vacate a portion of Jackson Military Road, with consideration to any historical signage needed following research and required processes.
