Lady Golden Tigers host softball camp
The 2017 Lady Golden Tigers Softball Camp took place on July 10 at the Russellville High School Softball Complex. Campers got the opportunity to improve their softball skills in a fun atmosphere.
Summer camps are often a good opportunity for young athletes to learn from highly-knowledgeable coaches, and they can then take what they learn to the field in their own games.
This camp also enabled the Russellville High School coaching staff the opportunity to get to know future Lady Golden Tigers – and future sports stars get to know the RHS coaches.
RHS second-year head coach Kathryn Montgomery led the camp, and the young players also got instruction from her assistant coaches and some current Russellville players, who served as good role models for the children.
Campers ranging from grades 2-6 participated, and they came from Russellville and the surrounding areas in north Alabama, including Phil Campbell and Belgreen.
The camp included instruction in the basic skills of the game and included drills in throwing, fielding, hitting, base running and sliding/diving. “We had a little over 30 people who came, which was a huge turnout, and we’re really excited about it,” Montgomery said. “We had juniors and seniors that were available to come work the camp, and they got to share their love of the game with the girls.”
Children who attended received T-shirts, and most would agree that all who participated looked to be having a fun experience while receiving valuable knowledge about softball and life that they can use on and off the field.
