RHS softball host youth camp

By Brannon King for the FCT

The Russellville softball program will hold the Lady Golden Tigers Softball Camp July 10 at the RHS Softball Complex.

The camp is for children in grades 1-6, and the cost is $35 (make checks payable to RHS Softball) with payment due at check-in. An optional pitchers/catchers camp will also take place July 11 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. For campers who also attend the second day, cost will be $50 total.

Check-in July 10 is from 8-8:30 a.m., and the camp will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Campers are asked to pre-register by July 2 to guarantee a camp T-shirt. Registration will remain open through check-in.

To register for the camp, email Coach Kathryn Montgomery at kathryn.montgomery@rcs.k12.al.us with the following information: camper’s name, age, grade, emergency contacts (two names, numbers, relationship to camper), major allergies/medical conditions, T-shirt size (note adult or youth size), attending additional day of camp yes/no and pitcher/catcher.

According to the staff, pitchers will need to bring their own catcher and 11-inch ball if they do not want to use a 12-inch ball (if no catcher is available, please make note at registration). Catchers need to bring any catching gear they own. Campers also need to bring a lunch and a drink/water bottle or personal cooler. Campers should wear athletic attire and cleats/tennis shoes and should also bring a towel, glove, bat and helmet.

The camp will focus on the basic skills needed to play, including throwing, fielding, batting, base running, sliding/diving.
