RCS BOE elects officers

 

In the final meeting before the summer break for Russellville City Schools Board of Education, the board unanimously elected officers for the coming year.

Board members elected Brett Gist as president of the board and Judy Pounders as the president-elect. Greg Trapp has been president for the preceding year.

As the school system continues to shape career tech offerings, the board approved two job descriptions for revamped roles in the department: CTE Administrative Assistant/Cooperative Education Coordinator and Career Technical/Cooperative Education Coordinator. “We’re going to work to really change our career tech program to really connect with business and industry,” Superintendent Heath Grimes said. “We’re just talking about how we can do some things differently. We’re excited about it. We should see a more robust career tech program.”

Personnel items were as follows:

  • Reinstatement of Sick Leave – Judy Putman, CNP Worker.
  • Retirement – Rhonda Lier, teacher, WES, effective June 1; Regina Woods, teacher, WES, effective June 1; Nancy Meeks, teacher, RMS, effective June 1; Carole Fowler, aide, RHS, effective June 1.
  • Resignation of Position – Cody Sellers, teacher, RHS, effective May 26; Katie Brewer, teacher, RMS, effective May 26; Ryan Brewer, teacher, RMS, effective May 26; Alice Kimbrough, teacher, RMS, effective June 1.
  • Resignation in Supplement – Angela Crittenden, RHS Majorette sponsor.
  • Employment in Supplement – Roxanne Bowles, RHS Majorette sponsor.
  • Employment in Position – Wayne Wilkes, Driver Education teacher at RHS, effective Aug. 3; Jess Smith, social science teacher at RMS, effective Aug. 3; Mason Willis, Career Prep teacher at RMS, effective Aug. 3; Whitney Glover, science teacher at RMS, effective Aug. 3.
  • Temporary Employment – 21st CCLC aides (part-time as needed): Leslie Riviera, Pedro Francisco, Ponda Gordon, Lisa Keeton, Marla Kerby, Kayla Thorne, Rhonda Lier, Rhonda Pounders, Cindy Coan, Betty Heaton, Donna Bolton and Shannon O’Neal.
  • Transfers – Cassie Goodwin from technology facilitator at RES to library media specialist at WES; Malory Kincaid from instructional coach at RES to teacher at RMS; Monica Farris from EL teacher/parent/school resource specialist at RES to RES/WES; Paige Hargett from teacher at RES to attendance aide at RHS.
  • Involuntary Transfer – Sommer Pounders from media specialist at WES to teacher at RES.

The board also approved:

  • Trip requests for the baseball team and RES fifth graders.
  • CNP agreements for summer feeding programs.
  • Private Contract Service Agreement between the University of North Alabama and Russellville Elementary School for facility usage for AMSTI-UNA 2017 Summer Institute Training to be held in June 2017.
  • Facility use requests for Marching Hundred and Auxiliary-related events.

The board voted to continue the regular monthly meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month at 3:30 p.m. at central office. The next meeting will be June 29 at 3:30 p.m., with the work session June 26 at 3:30 p.m.
