Russellville Valedictorian: Stephanie Monterroso

“It’s an honor to be valedictorian. There are so many good things that come with it.”

Stephanie Monterroso has always had a drive to achieve good grades, and she was also encouraged by her brother to excel beyond his own title of salutatorian – something she accomplished by snagging the No. 1 spot for the Russellville High School Class of 2017.

Monterroso will attend the University of North Alabama in the fall to major in biology and minor in chemistry, ultimately aiming for a career in anesthesia or pharmacy.

Monterroso said she is nervous to give her valedictorian speech in front of thousands of people but honored and humbled to represent her class. “We all worked hard to get here,” she said.

Among extensive involvement and honors at Russellville High School, Monterroso has been active in marching band, student council, SADD, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership, Mu Alpha Theta, peer helpers, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Chemistry Club, HOSA, Christian Students United project chair, FCCLA, Franklin County Junior Leadership, Homecoming Queen, Marching Hundred drum major, annual staff, John Phillip Sousa band award and more.

She said she has cherished her time at Russellville among a close-knit class and community. Although she is nervous about college she looks forward to the experience.

Monterroso is the daughter of Gustavo and Ana Monterroso.
