Belgreen Salutatorian: Christian Nelson

Christian Nelson felt a quiet confidence that she would rise near the top of her class. Her conviction well-founded, as she was named salutatorian of the Belgreen High School Class of 2017.

“I’ve always wanted to have a good successful future, and I knew good grades would get me further,” said Nelson, who plans to continue her education at Northwest-Shoals Community College in the fall. Following a year at NW-SCC, she plans to advance to Wallace State to pursue a degree in dental hygiene. “I’ve always wanted to be a dentist. I just like pretty teeth.”

Nelson played volleyball in ninth grade at Belgreen and was active in History Club, FBLA, Yearbook Staff and Beta Club. In other honors, Nelson was selected to the senior Homecoming Court.

Nelson said she is excited at the new opportunities and change of scenery that college will bring. She looks forward to learning more and progressing beyond high school.

Susan Thompson, who teaches history at Belgreen, described Nelson as “an exceptional young lady with strong work ethic,” someone who Thompson has watched come out of her shell a little bit over the course of the year. Thompson said Nelson is sure to excel in whatever path she chooses in life.

Nelson is the daughter of Benji Nelson and Stefani Jones.
