NW-SCC nursing program holds pinning ceremony

Northwest-Shoals Community College Nursing Program honored 62 registered nursing graduates at its pinning ceremony May 11.

Director of nursing Brittany Humphres, faculty and students participated in the ceremony that included remarks by Dr. Humphrey Lee, president of NW-SCC; Lisa Allen, class representative; and Melissa DeFloor, ECM patient care manager. Remarks were followed by the presentation of the pins, the Nightingale Pledge, candle lighting and a solo by graduate Brady Whitten.

The symbolic tradition of the ceremonial pinning originated in the 1860s at the Nightingale School of Nursing Hospital in London. The nursing pin the graduates receive is a type of badge, awarded by the program’s faculty as a symbolic welcome into the profession.

The pinning participants from Franklin County were:

  • Phil Campbell: Andrea Danielle Fugate, Shayna Kaye Fugate, Taylor Michelle Morgan, Amye Elizabeth Plumley and Brady Lee Whitten
  • Red Bay: Jessica Hope Jackson
  • Russellville: Hannah Elizabeth Blacklidge, Sara Marie Davis, Brittany Paige Flanagan, Kayla Brook Frederick, Henrry Rodolfo Garcia, Tanya Marie Goodloe, Ashley Brooke Herring, Jodie Marie Jansen, Maria Martinez, Jeslyn Shayne Parker and Katie Dakota Taylor
  • Spruce Pine: Tabitha Diane Miller
  • Vina: Andrew Thomas Hester
