Library supports Relay for Life with “To Joey, With Love”

When library director Ashely Cummins found out the film “To Joey With Love” was available to screen for an audience, she knew immediately that she wanted to bring the movie to the Russellville Public Library as a fundraiser for Relay for Life.

For Cummins, the movie sparks personal emotions.

“I lost my grandmother to cancer over the summer, and she really followed the Joey Feek story. She just loved their love story,” Cummins said.

Joey and Rory Feek drew national attention as the husband-and-wife singing duo struggled with Joey’s battle with cancer. They shared their feelings in a real and raw way with the world, touching the hearts of thousands through social media updates. The movie, as explained by its website synopsis, was “intimately filmed by the couple over two and a half years … (and) documents the stirring journey of the 2010 Academy of Country Music Top New Vocal Duo. ‘To Joey, With Love’ take moviegoers from the birth of their daughter Indiana, born with Down Syndrome, through Joey’s struggle with and ultimate surrender to cancer – all amidst their never-ending hope in something far greater.”

The Russellville Public Library’s showing of this touching, poignant film will be this Saturday with doors opening at 5 p.m. Cummins said the library will offer free popcorn and drinks, but donations will be accepted to benefit the library’s Relay for Life team.

Franklin County Relay for Life will be held May 5 in downtown Russellville. This year’s theme is Defeat All Cancers.
