Wildcats struggle against Brilliant Tigers

Brilliant 14, Tharptown 3

The Tharptown Wildcats fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 14-3 loss to the Brilliant Tigers in game one of a doubleheader Friday.

Brilliant captured the lead in the first inning scoring one run on a stolen base.

Tharptown scored three runs in the fourth inning. The Wildcats’ big inning was driven by walks by Cal Wingo, Hunter White and Britton Kennamore.

Brilliant scored eight runs in the fifth inning, racking up four hits, including a double.

Kennamore took the loss for Tharptown. He pitched four innings, allowing six runs and four hits and striking out one.

Kennamore, Wingo, and White each drove in one run to lead the Wildcats.

Brilliant collected nine hits in the win.

Brilliant 14, Tharptown 3

The Tharptown Wildcats couldn’t keep up with the Brilliant Tigers in game two of the double header, again falling 14-3.

After Brilliant scored two runs in the top of the fourth, Tharptown answered with two of their own. Brilliant scored on a Wildcat error, netting two runs. Tharptown answered when Braden Key and Travis Staten singled off Tiger pitching, driving in one run.

Tharptown evened things up at one in the bottom of the second inning. The Wildcats scored one run on a stolen base in the second inning.

Brilliant took the lead for good with five runs in the third inning. In the third there was a Tharptown error, scoring two runs. Hunter White forced Everett Mcguire to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and there was another error, scoring one run.

Brilliant scored six runs in the fifth inning.

Staten and Key drove in one run each to lead Tharptown. The Wildcats tore up the base paths, with two players stealing at least two bases. Carson Petree led the way with four swipes.

Brilliant had seven hits in the game.
