David Landis Mobley

David Landis Mobley, 82, of Fairview, Miss., passed away Feb. 22 with his family holding him as he left for his greatest family reunion.

David was born Aug. 3, 1934, in Birmingham to Elizabeth Moomaw. He graduated from Vina High School, where he was a star athlete. June 29, 1956, David married the former Hettie Joy King of Bexar. He was an inductee to the Franklin County Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 and an avid supporter of the Alabama Crimson Tide and any athletic event in which his children or grandchildren were participants. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

David retired from Mueller Brass in Fulton, Miss., after 35 years. Though David worked a factory job to support his family, his real work and passion was in loving his wife and building the character of their children on the cattle farm that he loved so much. He was big and strong and known to waste few words, but his daily example of how to be a man of honor spoke volumes. He and Hettie raised their children in faith, teaching them the value of family, hard work, honesty and kindness. These values can be witnessed in his survivors: his loving sweetheart of 60 years, Hettie Mobley, Golden, Miss; their two sons and two daughters, William Keith Mobley of Waukegan, Ill., Ronald Mobley and his wife Nancy of Fairview, Miss., Joyce Ann Booth and her husband Jerry of Tremont, Miss., and  Laura Joy Orr and her husband Butch of Fairview, Miss., 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Moomaw and wife Teresa and Bill Moomaw and wife Mina; a host of nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Bama.

David was preceded in death by two grandchildren, William Keith Mobley II and Justin Mobley.

A celebration of his life was held Feb. 25 at 3:30 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, with Bro. Kerry Peden and Bro. Bob O’Neal officiating. Visitation was Feb. 25 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay. Burial was in Holly Springs Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Hodges.

Pallbearers were Keith Mobley, Ronnie Mobley, Jerry Booth, Butch Orr, Ethan Orr and Houston Orr.
