Johnny C. Brown

Johnny C. Brown, age 75, Russellville, passed away Feb. 16 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Mr. Brown served as superintendent of the Russellville Street Department for five years; served as councilman of District 2 for six years; and was the former mayor of Russellville for two terms. He was a good, Christian man, who was a deacon at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Russellville. He loved his Lord, his wife and his family and was a man who listened and was a man of his word.

He was preceded in death by his son, Johnny C. Brown Jr.; parents, Johnny and Rebecca Brown; and sister, Gloria Webb.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 59 years, Martha Webb Brown; daughter, Pam Henson and husband Nathan; grandchildren, Dana Jones (Tammy Jones) and Marty Hargett Jr.; great-grandchildren, Amber Berry, Brittany Berry, John Tyler Hargett, Nicky Hargett, Alex Hargett and Maggie Jade Hargett; Nathaniel Wade and Kylen Riley; brother, Jimmy Brown and wife Patsy of Cherokee; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Feb. 17 at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 18 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church (County Road 48) with the body lying in state one hour prior to the funeral. Officiating will be Bro. John Webb. Burial will be in the adjourning church cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Marty Hargett Jr., David Hester, Tyler Henson, Probate Judge Barry Moore, James Elliott (fellow deacon at Friendship Baptist Church) and Joe Mansell (Russellville Fire Department Chief). The honorary pallbearers will be the great-grandchildren, Amber Berry, Brittany Berry, Nicky Hargett, Alex Conner Hargett, Maggie Jade Hargett and John Tyler Hargett.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Hospice of North Alabama, our RN Kasie and Dr. Brad McAnnally for the love and care of our family.
