When thinking of “energy,” people might imagine taking a bite of a protein bar or buying a sugary energy drink. However, in 2007, New York Times bestselling author Jon Gordon wrote about a different kind of energy: a positive attitude that can help people achieve wonders in life. In his book “The Energy Bus,” Gordon discussed “10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work and Team with Positive Energy.” The book went on to become a bestseller and inspire a lot of people around the world – one being Tharptown High School teacher Bart Moss.
“I am an avid reader of Jon Gordon,” said Moss. “I believe strong, positive leadership is something our schools and our students need.”
Gordon has worked with professional sports team and Fortune 500 corporations on positive energy. He started an organization called Energy Bus For Schools to help schools build a positive culture by empowering children to become positive leaders and developing positive educators, who will help develop student leaders.
One of the organization’s many conferences will be held in New York City June 23 as part of their 2017 Leadership Tour. With partial help from a grant from the Franklin County Community Development Commission, Moss plans to attend.
“I would like to thank the commission for the funding,” said Moss. “Sen. Stutts, Reps. Johnson and Morrow and their representatives on the commission do an outstanding job helping our schools and our communities meet financial and technological goals.”
Moss said he hopes the conference will help him “become a better leader, a better teacher and better person.”
“I believe all schools and school systems rise or fall because of the leadership,” said Moss. “Are you a goal-setter, are you a positive and energetic influence on schools or students, are you motivated to be the best you can be all the time? Those are the elements of leadership I look for and aspire to be.”
