In honor of School Board Member Appreciation Month, last week’s Russellville City Schools Board of Education meeting was largely dominated by gifts of gratitude from each RCS school to school board members Greg Trapp, Bret Gist, Greg Batchelor, Judy Pounder and Jerry Groce.

School board members received gift bags with tokens of appreciation from West Elementary; special edition copies of the “RES Gazette” made by 5th graders in Melissa Greenhill’s class from Russellville Elementary, along with gift bags; gift certificates to 43 Grill from Russellville Middle School; and umbrellas bearing the Golden Tiger logo from Russellville High School.

“I could stand here for hours and talk about what these five people have done not only for me but for the county, the city and the school system,” expressed RHS Principal Jason Goodwin. “Three words come to mind when I think of our school board: growth, direction and forward-thinking.

“Thank you for all you continue to do for Russellville City Schools.”

At Thursday’s meeting, the board also approved Gist’s reappointment; approved Nathan Vincent, Sander Tverberg and Bryant Bonds as athletic consultants, to be paid by respective Booster Clubs; approved WES Linda Freeman’s resignation and RES’ Kimberly McCulloch’s leave of absence; and approved Kelsey Davis and Jess Smith as athletic program volunteers.

The next regularly-scheduled meeting will be Feb. 23 at 3:30 p.m., with a work session Feb. 22 at 3:30 p.m.
