Doris M. Stewart May

Doris M. Stewart May, age 84 of Phil Campbell, passed away Dec. 2 at her residence.
Visitation will be Dec. 4 from 5-8 p.m. at Akins Funeral Home Russellville. Funeral services will be Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Akins Funeral Home with Bro. Benny Knight and Bro. Danny Hammett officiating. Burial will be in Union Hill First Congregational Methodist Cemetery.

Doris was a graduate from Northwest-Shoals Community College Phil Campbell Campus, where she earned a degree in nursing in 1979. She began working in August 1979 at Russellville Hospital as an RN, where she worked until February 2007.
Doris was known very much for her unwavering faith and love for God along with everyone she met. She was a faithful member of Solid Rock Church in Haleyville.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil E and Doris Mason Stewart; husband James W. May; sons James W. May Jr., and Benjamin “Ben” May; and son-in-law Thomas G. “Tommy” Baldy.

She is survived by her daughters Sherry Baldy Barnes and husband Marshall, Kathy Blevins and Rose Davis and husband Chuck; son Winford May; brother Edward Cecil Stewart (Leo); grandchildren Lisa Lewis, Greg Smith and wife Patty, Joanie Uptain and husband Matt, Michelle May, Brandy May, Kelly Baker and husband Eric, Heather Dancer and husband James, Justin Baldy and wife Shelbi and Chris Hightower; great-grandchildren Jordan Baxter, Maggie Uptain, Josh Graham and wife Morgan, Zach Winsted, Jake Winsted, Dakota Fischer, Seth Baker, Makayla Baker, Lydia Dancer, Isabella Dancer, Preston Dancer, Paisley Baldy, Deacon Baldy and Jackson Hightower; nieces and nephews Edward (Ed) Stewart and wife Charity and James Stewart and wife Bethany; and great-nephew Mason Stewart.

Pallbearers will be Greg Smith, Ed Stewart, Jordan Baxter, James Stewart, Seth Baker and LeRoy Raffel. Honorary pallbearers will be Preston Dancer, Deacon Baldy, Mason Stewart and Johnny Geary.
