Henry Oliver Pace

Henry Oliver Pace, age 74, Phil Campbell, passed away Sept. 21 at his residence.

Henry Pace overcame many obstacles in his life, from a stroke in his early twenties, to having five artificial joints, having too many surgeries to count, surviving an F-5 tornado even when his wife did not, and yet never took a handout from anyone. He owned and operated Pace Tire and Auto for more than 20 years. He played a major role in getting a lot of people in the Phil Campbell area city water in the 1980s. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Phil Campbell. Henry was the type of man who you always knew where you stood with him, a hardworking man who helped a lot of people and never met a stranger. He was a man’s man, but his granddaughters brought out the tender side in him, and they were the light of his life.

The visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 23 at Spry Memorial Chapel, with the funeral following at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Officiating at the service will be Bro. Sammy Wallace. Burial will be at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Phil Campbell.

He was preceded in death by wife of 46 years, Martha Nix Pace; his parents, Neal and Virginia Pace; and brother, Walker Pace.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Brian Pace from Odessa, Texas, and Steven Pace and wife Natasha from Hamilton; grandchildren, Maggie Pace, Mary Claire Pace and Emmy Ella Pace; three step-grandchildren; brother, Gary Pace and wife Lucy; sister, Ann Pace; sister-in-law, Judy Evett; and several nieces and nephews.

The pallbearers will be Randy Ergle, Tom Armstrong, Jimmy Carter, James Taff, Mark Cain, Phillip Pace, Justin Pace and William Cox.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Christine, Brenda, Myra, Bobbie, Renee, Joyce, the staff of Alacare Home Health, Aseracare Hospice, and all the others who helped to take care of their dad.
