Rayburn C. Nix
Rayburn C. Nix, 67, of Russellville, passed away at Russellville Hospital Aug. 31.
A native of Michigan, he had lived in Russellville most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device and one Overseas Bar. He owned a trucking company.
Visitation will be Sept. 6 beginning at 10 a.m. until services at noon in the chapel at Pinkard Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Devaney Cemetery in Spruce Pine.
Survivors include children Billy Ray Nix and Wanda Sumerel; grandchildren, Cheyenne Nix, Nicole Sumerel, Kailey Nix, Gunner Nix, Lyndsey Nix and Alyssa Fisher; two great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Judy Nix; three sisters, two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Marion Nix and Beatrice Hughes Nix.
