A new restaurant called Delicias has opened up in downtown Russellville and is ready to cure your appetite.

Delicias, located at 113 N. Jackson Ave., opened up just a few weeks ago and is another one of the local restaurants that have been popping up around Russellville over the past couple of years. Most of the small restaurants that have opened up in the city are Mexican restaurants and, to an extent, Delicias also fits the same criteria.

However, Delicias offers services that other local eateries do not, making it a bit unique in Russellville. Delicias offers all of the usual Mexican dishes found at other places, but a quick glance at the menu and one will notice a variety of “American foods,” such as burgers and fries, as well.

“My goal is to be available to everyone and serve authentic Mexican and American food,” said Cesar Gonzalez, who owns the restaurant with his wife, Lidia Soto.

Gonzalez’s restaurant is not only open for lunch and dinner but also for breakfast, giving the menu more variety than others in town. Gonzalez said he believes this makes Delicias unique and gives his establishment a leg up on the competition.

“We got some pretty good breakfast food – pancakes, waffles, eggs,” he said. “A lot of people like breakfast for dinner, and we do that.”

Gonzalez, a native of Mexico, was raised in California and moved to this area about 15 years ago. Gonzalez has put a lot of time in the restaurant business, and this experience helps him run his restaurant.

“I have worked in restaurants a long time, and when the opportunity came to open the restaurant, I wanted to do it,” he said. “Me and my wife worked really hard to get it ready to open.”

Many people enjoy owning their own business for the freedom it provides, to be their own boss, but Gonzalez’s favorite part of owning Delicias is that he gets to do it with his family.

“My favorite thing is it lets me provide for my family,” he said. “It’s just something that I like to do with my family, and we get to work on it together.”

Delicias is still in its infancy, but Gonzalez is hopeful that his new restaurant will become a successful one. Long term, he hopes to expand his product.

“If it becomes a hit, long term I’d want to put another restaurant in Florence or somewhere,” he said.
