First City Council meeting of the year

The Russellville City Council held their first meeting of the New Year Jan. 5 at City Hall.

Included in the meeting was an executive session that according to city attorney Daniel McDowell, “did not see any votes cast or any motions,” but did see some department heads and the mayor meet for approximately 10 minutes.

The council approved a motion to accept the work completed by Mid-South Paving on the Underwood Rd. project. Work to be done by Norfolk-Southern and the Alabama Department of Transportation at railroad crossings was approved. The resignation of Johnny Davis from the Civil Service Board was also accepted by the council.

The city council approved moving the next meeting from Jan. 19 to Jan. 20 in regards to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

Mayor Grissom also acknowledged the upcoming National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on Jan. 9 and asked everyone to “make sure to show your appreciation and let the service men and women know that they are doing a good job in light of the recent events throughout the nation.”
