RPD looking for officers

The Russellville Police Department is looking for several dedicated citizens who are interested in serving their community through a career as a police officer.

Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said the department currently has three openings for a patrol officer and one opening for a dispatcher.

Hargett said they were looking for self-motivated people with a great work ethic and a commitment to integrity, discipline and honesty.

“Being a police officer isn’t just a job – it’s a career,” Hargett said.

“This is not something you go into for the money. This is something you go into to make a difference.”

Hargett said he began his career in law enforcement when he was 23 years old and has never looked back.

“Being in law enforcement has been fulfilling for me personally because you can actually see how you are making a difference in people’s lives,” he said.

“You can see the people you have helped, the situations you have helped resolve, the justice you have helped to serve, and the safer community you have helped to create.”

Hargett said anyone can apply for these positions and no formal training beforehand is required.

“If someone isn’t already APOST certified, there will be a physical fitness test that will have to be completed,” Hargett said.

“This is a demanding job physically, and we need to make sure all of our officers meet certain requirements.”

Applications for these positions can be picked up at the Russellville City Hall or the Russellville Police Department. All applications must be mailed (not dropped off) and must be postmarked no later than May 10.

Applications should be sent to the Russellville Civil Service Board at P.O. Box 308, Russellville, AL 35653.
