Locals attend Bankers 2 Leaders event

A local group of bankers and high school students attended the Bankers 2 Leaders division of the Alabama Bankers Association’s annual Legislative Day in Montgomery on April 2.
More than 150 bankers and high school students from all over the state attended the annual event, which featured speakers representing key areas of government, including Lt. Governor Kay Ivey, Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard, and Representative Jack Williams.
CB&S Bank sponsored students from Russellville High School to attend the educational event where they were able to meet with local North Alabama leaders, including Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow and Sen. Roger Bedford.
Dennis Upchurch, CB&S bank president and chief executive officer, is proud to be able to support local students in their growth and development into future local leaders.
“The education of Franklin County and North Alabama students plays such an important role in the future of our county and state,” Upchurch said.

According to ABA President and CEO Scott E. Latham, the event is designed to heighten awareness of students as to how the state government works and to encourage involvement in the democratic process at a young age.
“Students actually have the chance to talk with their legislators and state government leaders about issues prevalent in their own communities, while getting a first-hand view of how the legislative process works,” he said.
“Bankers in Alabama have a tremendous sense of community and make service to their communities a top priority. Events such as Legislative Day are designed to reinforce and facilitate this priority by giving our bankers the opportunity to interact with students.”
