The Russellville boys’ golf team beat Hartselle by a score of 144 to 154 at their match last week.

Russellville was led by Joshua Seal’s 33, followed by Eli Hodges (34), Blake Bendall (38) and Aaron Jackson (39).

The boy’s team has three matches left before heading to Cypress Lakes for the 2014 Sectional Tournament.

“I am really glad to see Joshua have two really good matches in back to back weeks,” golf coach Jason Haithcock said. “For us to advance further he will have to play some really good golf down the stretch.

“The month of March was really busy for the golf team with us traveling around, playing a lot of different courses and opponents that we normally don’t see. This month is a little less busy due to weather, which will allow the boys to hone in on their skills and try to correct any problems.”

The Russellville girls’ golf team placed second in a three-team match. Hartselle shot a 142, Russellville shot a 163, and Colbert Heights shot a 168

The girls were led by Morgan Moon’s 49 followed by Josie Willis’s 56.

“The girls have come so far and a couple of the girls are on the verge of shoot in the 40s almost every time out,” Haithcock said. “One or two bad holes in the last couple of matches have made a huge difference between a score of 45 and 55.”

The girls team also has three matches left before playing in their first ever sectional tournament which will be held at Twin Pines Country Club.
