Crews battle widespread grass fire

LITTLEVILLE – Fire crews were on the scene of a widespread grass fire near the Twin Pines Golf and County Club on the Franklin-Colbert County line for several hours Friday.

Officials said the fire spread to approximately 500 acres before it was contained.

Crews from 11 different fire departments rushed to the Osborn Hill Road area after the fire was reported at 11:50 a.m., officials said.

Crews worked to keep the flames away from the homes located in the Twin Pines Subdivision, which is located behind the golf course and had to be evacuated for a short time after flames from the grass fire burned portions of several yards located in the subdivision.

Fire crews from Littleville Fire Department, Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Russellville Fire Department, the Alabama Forestry Commission and others were all on the scene and were able to contain the fire.

An exact cause for the massive grass fire has not been released at this time.
