The Russellville Lady Golden Tigers defeated the Lady Indians from Colbert County High School Friday night in an exciting game where the Lady Tigers took an early lead and finished strong.

Led by Junior Ashley Dunstan, the Lady Tigers never trailed in the game.

Winning 14-9 at the end of the first quarter, the Tigers held off a surge by the Lady Indians to lead at the half 26-17. Russellville maintained their lead through the third quarter and finished with a strong fourth quarter to win the game with a score of 52-41.

Coach Bostick complimented the team on their play.

“We played a consistent defensive game and finished the game with a strong offensive fourth quarter to clinch the win,” Bostick said.

“These girls have a lot of potential when they play together as a team.”

Dunstan had 12 points in the first quarter and finished the game with a total of 26. Other scorers for the Lady Tigers included Megan Brockway with 7, Peyton Hester with 5, Jakari Suggs and Patricia Borden with 4 each, Abby Holcomb with 3, Victoria Jackson with 2 and Teresa Thompkins with 1 point.

In action Monday night, the Lady Golden Tigers lost to Florence 60-53.

The Tigers battled back from a 19-point deficient at the end of the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Falcons in the fourth quarter 27-15 to get within 7 by the end of the game.

High scorers for the Lady Tigers were Ashley Dunstan with 19, Megan Brockway with a season high 12 points and Angela Woods with 8.

The Lady Tigers travel to Muscle Shoals High School this Thursday night to take on the Lady Trojans in the first round of the area tournament. Game time is 7:30 pm.
