RED BAY – City leaders have officially dedicated Heritage Park in Red Bay.

Red Bay Mayor David Tiffin recently cut the ribbon dedicating the park that has been more than two years in the making.

After the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony, the crowd enjoyed music by Joseph Baldwin, a local artist who has made a name for himself in the music community, and the renowned group The Midnighters.

Red Bay councilwoman Charlene Fancher, who headed up the Heritage Park project, said the event was exactly the vision she had in mind for the park when the city began the project more than two years ago.

“When we just this vacant space in the middle of town left over from a building that had been torn down, we didn’t want to let the space become an eyesore in our otherwise beautiful town,” Fancher said.

“We had many citizens who were concerned about this as well, so that’s when we started the planning for Heritage Park. We knew that if we did this right, this could be a wonderful place for all of our citizens.”

Fancher said the city council decided in the early stages of planning that the main function of the park would be for entertainment.

“We have so much local talent that we wanted a place to be able to enjoy and showcase it right here in our own city,” Fancher said.

“We want our citizens to be able to enjoy quality entertainment here in Red Bay without having to drive a long distance to enjoy the same type of entertainment.”

The park features a covered stage area for entertainment and plenty of open space for people to bring lawn chairs and to sit back and enjoy the music.

“The dedication and the concert that followed was hopefully just the beginning of many similar evenings at Heritage Park,” Fancher said.

“Everyone there seemed to have a great time and I can’t wait for the next event.”
