Sandra “Sandy” Hester George, 65, of Red Bay, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Red Bay Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer, AML.

Sandy was at home in Red Bay after having raised her family in Muscle Shoals. She worked for many years in the offices of area nursing homes. She was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was an excellent cook and made everyone feel welcome and important. Sandy loved her gardens and was a member and past president of the Red Bay Garden Club. Sandy was of the Baptist faith and a graduate of Red Bay High School.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church, Vina, with Bro. Greg Philamlee officiating. Burial was in Burnout Cemetery.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Hoyt George, Red Bay; daughter, Laryessa Holmes ad husband, John, and grandson, Ian Holmes, Chattanooga, Tenn.; father, Bertram Hester, Vina; sister, Pamela Hendon and husband, David, Sheffield; nephew Corey Hendon and wife, Kelly, and great-nephew, Casey Hendon, Athens.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Elma Jean Hester, Red Bay, and her niece, Jeannine Hendon, Sheffield.

Pallbearers were family and friends. The Red Bay Garden Club served as honorary pallbearers.
