Arrest made in shooting case

A Russellville man was arrested Thursday morning in connection with a shooting that took place last weekend at Westside Plaza Apartments in Russellville.
Johnny Thomas Borden, 24, 100 Westside Plaza, Apt. 362, Russellville, was charged with first-degree robbery, officials said.
According to Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett, Borden came over to the apartment of Mark Cooley, the 51-year-old man who was shot once in the abdomen about 10:50 p.m. on Saturday.
Hargett said while Borden was in Cooley’s apartment, he is accused of robbing another man at gunpoint.
Hargett said the victim of the robbery fled from the scene but returned an hour later with another man because he had left his cell phone behind.
Hargett said when the robbery victim and his friend returned to the apartment, he got into an altercation with Borden, who was still at the scene at that time.
Sgt. Joe Hargett said they discovered that during the altercation a gunshot was fired that went through the corner of a wall in the kitchen and into an adjacent room where Cooley was then struck in the abdomen. Chris Hargett said paramedics arrived on the scene and Cooley was flown from the upper parking lot of the Russellville High School Stadium to Huntsville Hospital where he still remained in the surgical intensive care unit as of Friday afternoon.
The .20-gauge shotgun that was allegedly used in the shooting was recovered near the scene, officials said.
Chris Hargett said the case is still under investigation and additional charges or arrests could be added when the case is presented to the grand jury. Borden remains in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
