Bishop wins “Future Star of Tomorrow” award from country music group

Local singer Blaze Bishop has been keeping busy the last few weeks juggling her school activities and pursuing her personal goals, which have kept her on the run.
The choral and drama departments at Russellville Middle School traveled to Troy University to compete in the State Thespian Competition on February 25 where Bishop received a Superior Rating in the Solo Female Vocal category, which qualified her for the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Neb.
The following week, Bishop performed at Travis Wammack’s show at Goodsprings Restaurant before heading off to Samford University in Birmingham for the All State Choral Festival.
“We got home Saturday evening, repacked and left out for Pigeon Forge, Tenn., that night for my North American Country Music Associations International audition scheduled for that Monday,” Bishop said. “After my audition, we traveled the five and a half hours back to Alabama for school.”
The very next weekend, Bishop once again set out for Pigeon Forge for the NACMAI Awards being held on March 18.
Youth and adults from around the country came together for the two-week event. Nominees who won their state, moved up to compete for a national award in their category.
After winning the award for “Most Promising Female Vocalist” for New County Music in the state of Tennessee during the Tennessee Country and Gospel Music Association Awards in December, Bishop earned the right to compete for the NACMAI Awards, which is a national competition.
Auditions from each state were held during the week leading up to the awards show. Bishop sings various typed of music, including country, and she decided on Miranda Lambert’s “House that Built Me” and the Wrecker’s “Leave the Pieces” for her audition pieces.
She performed at the Country Tonight Theatre in Pigeon Forge for the judges as well as an audience of other contestants and supporters.
At the awards show, Bishop won the NACMAI award for Female Vocalist “Future Star of Tomorrow” for New Country Music.
“I was excited to receive the award and I want to thank everyone that encouraged and supported me,” she said. “There were contestants from all over the U.S. and Canada and as far away as California, and Maine.
“I have met some wonderful, talented people my age, from all over the country that share my interest in music. There is a lot of talent out there, and I feel very honored to have received this award and recognition on a national level.”
