Frog Pond man injured in 4-wheeler accident
FROG POND – A Spruce Pine man who was injured in a four-wheeler accident on Wednesday is listed as being in fair condition at Huntsville Hospital, officials said.
Authorities said Alan Newell, 54, of Franklin 22 in Spruce Pine, suffered from injuries he sustained when the four-wheeler he was driving went off a ravine in a wooded area near Richeson Road Wednesday evening.
Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said Newell was apparently trying to help his grandson transport a deer he had killed earlier in the evening and backed off the ravine.
Oliver said the Phil Campbell Rescue Squad, Frog Pond Volunteer Fire Department, sheriff’s deputies and Alabama Game and Fish wardens responded to the scene and carried Newell up the ravine where he was then transported by AirEvac to Huntsville, which is where he remained as of press time.
