Thomas Eugene “Gene” Mansell, 66, went home to be with the good Lord on Thursday, October 20, 2011.
Gene was a lifelong resident of the Shoals.  He was a member of the Valley Grove Baptist Church.  He also loved Auburn football.  War Eagle!!!  He was a hard worker in all that he did.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Spry Memorial Chapel.  Officiating at the service was Bro. Greg Beasley.  The burial was at Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy Mansell, of Sheffield; four sons, Kevin Mansell and wife, Jill, of Tuscumbia, J.T. Mansell, Josh Mansell, and Carson Mansell, all of Sheffield; one daughter, Jeannie Boyd and husband, Scott, of Muscle Shoals; one step-son, Tommy Smith Jr., of Muscle Shoals; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert E. Mansell and wife, Evelyn, of Killen; sister, Tommie Lou Minnick and husband, Jr., of Rockford, Ill.; host of nieces and nephews; and special friend, Myra Cain.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Tom and Audie Mansell; daughter, Tonya Mansell; sisters, Mable West, Shirley Mansell, and Geraldine Vernon.
The pallbearers were Scott Boyd, Matt Mansell, Eric Mansell, Tommy Smith, Jr., Robbie Reagan, Randy Vernon, Brad Stephens, and Chad Jeffreys.
He was the best father that anyone could have.  “Thank you Daddy for being the man that you were.  You will be greatly missed by all who knew you.”  “If we meet and you forget me, you have lost nothing.  If you meet Jesus and you forget Him, you have lost everything!”
