How to help

What They Need

People from the areas affected by the tornado are without power, water and many are without homes. If you’d like to donate, the following items are needed:

• Drinks

Water, Gatorade, Powerade

• Ready-to-eat food items

Snack crackers, energy bars, beanie weenies, canned tuna, canned foods with a pop-top

• Personal hygiene items

Deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, feminine products, toilet paper, hand sanitizer

• Medical supplies

Band-aids, pain reliever, antacids, etc.

• Cleaning supplies

Paper towels, plastic containers, cleaning sprays, wipes, etc.

• Clothing

Shirts, pants, underwear and shoes for men, women and children of all sizes

• Baby items

Diapers, wipes, clothing, formula, baby food, etc.

• Miscellaneous

Batteries, flashlights, charcoal, can openers

Where to Go

Several businesses in Franklin County have agreed to serve as a drop-off location for the above items and have people dedicated to getting these items to the areas they are needed the most:

• Clark Pulley in the Russellville Industrial Park is he main drop-off location at this point. (Large collections of items like pallets of water and food can also be taken to the warehouse here.)

• Phil Campbell Elementary School’s gym will be accepting any clothing you might want to donate.

• The Franklin County Times office will still be accepting items next week.

What to Do

• Volunteers wanting to help with the clean-up efforts should report to the Phil Campbell Fire Department in the middle of town. Please bring chainsaws, fuel, and supplies if you can, and wear appropriate clothing.

• If you want to help at an individual’s residence, please contact them first. Do not attempt to start working without their permission. Some must wait for insurance companies before any clean up or repairs occur.
