Man accused of threatening witness

A local man has earned additional charges after making threats to a witness involved in a case he had previously been arrested on.

John Goza, 45, 703 Eugenia Nixon Circle, Apt. 163, Red Bay, was formally charged with intimidating a witness on Jan. 3.

According to Red Bay Police Chief Janna Jackson, Goza was incarcerated in the Red Bay City Jail on a second-degree criminal mischief charge, which he received for causing damage to a vehicle on Dec. 11.

While in jail, Goza sent letters threatening harm to the complaining witness in the criminal mischief case, Jackson said.

“After we discovered he had threatened the witness and we charged him with the crime, he was transferred to the Franklin County Jail,” Jackson said.

Goza remains in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a bond of $7,500.

Intimidating a witness in a Class C felony punishable by 1-10 years in prison if convicted.
