Development group distributes grants

 

Before Monday’s meeting of the Red Bay City Council, the Franklin County Community Development Commission awarded grants totaling $15,900 to different organizations in the county.
Grants were awarded by Sen. Roger Bedford to the following:
• $1,600.00 to the Franklin County Career Tech Center
• $500.00 to the Red Bay High School FFA
• $1,000.00 to the Russellville Youth Football League
• $500.00 to the Vina Jr. High Boys Basketball Team
• $1,000.00 to the Red Bay High School Jr. High Cheerleaders
• $1,250.00 to the Franklin County Commission Fiber Optic Relocation Capital Improvement
• $1,150.00 to the Phil Campbell High School geometry book purchases
Grants were awarded by Sen. Bedford on behalf of Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow to the following:
• $1,250.00 to the Franklin County Commission Fiber Optic Relocation Capital Improvement
• $1,150.00 to the Phil Campbell High School geometry book purchases
• $4,000.00 to the Franklin County Solid Waste Red Bay Recycling Bin
A grant for $2,500.00 was awarded by Sen. Bedford on behalf of Rep. Morrow and himself to the Vina High School PTO.
In other business, the council addressed the following items:
• Red Bay Garden Club presented awards to the 2010 Streetscape winners.
• A Veterans Day program will be held at Red Bay School on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 1:30 p.m. 
• City Hall and will be closed Thursday, Nov. 11 for Veterans’ Day.
• The Red Bay Christmas Parade will be Monday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. All businesses, churches and organizations are encouraged to have a float in the parade. Line up for the parade will begin at 5 p.m. at the Sunshine Homes parking lot. Special entertainment at the judges’ stand will begin at 4 p.m. and last until 6 p.m.
• The Red Bay Senior Citizen’s Annual Chili Supper will be Monday, Dec. 6, at 4 p.m. in the Senior Building. Plates are $6.00. Entertainment will be provided.
