Band to return to Orlando

The Russellville High School Marching Hundred will be returning to the “Happiest Place on Earth” next week to participate in a parade at Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

Band director Gary McNutt said he is taking 130 students to Orlando to perform in the ‘Celebrate a Dream Come True’ parade at the Magic Kingdom.

“This is another opportunity for us to represent our school and our community on a national level,” McNutt said. “We are pleased to accept the invitation to participate in this parade.”

McNutt said the students will leave Tuesday night, and will return to Russellville on Sunday.

“We will be leaving Tuesday, and will be performing Thursday, April 22 in the parade,” McNutt said.

The students will get to visit the Disney Parks and Downtown Disney, and Universal Studios’ Islands of Adventure.

McNutt said the RHS show choir will be performing at Downtown Disney on Friday, April 23.

McNutt said the band opted not to return to Orlando last year because of the band’s Philadelphia and New York trip in November 2008.

“The band marched in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving parade last school year so we didn’t take a trip last spring,” McNutt said.

McNutt said the trip is running each student about $600 to cover expenses.

“We’d like to thank Sen. Bedford and all the local businesses for their financial support to help keep the kids’ costs down,” McNutt said.
