Easter celebration crosses denomination

Throughout the years, many Christian denominations have developed their own ideas and beliefs on certain issues and events captured in the Bible.
This week, two local denominations set aside any differences they might have in ideology and theology to celebrate the meaning of Easter.
Congregation members from First United Methodist Church in Russellville joined members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church for a celebration called the “Service of the Holy Cross,” which is performed annually around Easter time to celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
First United Methodist Church senior pastor Alan Beasley said he has been a part of the ritual for seven years, but the relationship between Methodists and Catholics around this time started long before he arrived.
Beasley said the service consists of each church meeting together at the middle of Washington Street in downtown Russellville and exchanging 2×2 pieces of wood with each other during the week of Lint, which represents the crossing of religious boundaries.
Beasley said it is just something they have started doing annually around this time and believes it is good fellowship, while celebrating the suffering of Christ Jesus on the cross and the fact that he rose from the grave and is alive today.
