Hollis R. Nelson

Hollis R. Nelson, 84, of Red Bay, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at Helen Keller Hospital. He was born May 17, 1925 in Halltown, Ala. to Clarence and Hattie Shewbart Nelson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II, where he was a carbine expert and he was retired from Ford Motor Company.
Graveside services were held Oct. 22, at Halltown Cemetery with Haskell Sparks officiating.
He is survived by on daughter, Jo Ann Parker, of Florence; one son, Bill Nelson, of Hammond, Ind.; one sister, Marion Orrick, of Red Bay; five grandchildren, Michelle Parker, Michael Parker, Billy Nelson, Elvis Nelson and Misty Nelson; and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Mitchell Nelson; his parents; two brothers, A.C. Nelson and Neal Nelson; and one sister, Marjorie Swindle.
Delia A. Emerson

Delia A. Emerson, 85, of Vina, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 at The Meadows in Fulton, Miss. She was born Sept. 26, 1924 in Marion County, Ala. to Joe Wiley and Clementine Scott Pharr. She was a seamstress at Tollgate Manufacturing for 35 years and attended Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Oct. 22, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Greg Cook and Bro. Mark Barnett officiating. Burial was in Shottsville Cemetery in Vna.
She is survived by two children, Sandra Harris and husband, Tony, of Hamilton and Gary Emerson and wife, Joan, of Vina; one sister, Wilbie Turbyfill, of Vina; three brothers, Alvin Pharr and Billy Joe Pharr, both of Vina and Justin Pharr, of Hamilton; three grandchildren, Craig Harris and wife, Holly, and Chad Harris and wife, Jessica, all of Hamilton, and Lane Emerson, of Vina; four great-grandchildren, Blake Austin Harris, Sam Harris, Madyn Harris and Macon Harris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton Emerson; two sisters, Linda McCarley and Bonnie Davis; and one brother, Milford Pharr.
Pallbearers were Jessie McCarley, James Davis, Louie Childers, Craig Harris, Chad Harris, Lane Emerson and Charlie McPherson.
Velma Mae Pace Sillett

Velma Mae Pace Sillett, 72, of Russellville passed away on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at her residence.
Funeral services were held Oct. 26, at Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church in Tuscumbia with Father Don Forsythe officiating. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Tuscumbia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Sillett; and parents, Louise and Mattie Pace.
She is survived by her children, Kay Nichols and husband, Neal, Billy Sillett, Kimberly Cabaniss and husband, Lance, all of Russellville; grandchildren, Nick Nichols and wife, Tiffany, of Lexington, Bradley Nichols, Alexandra Cabaniss, Jackson Cabaniss and Shian Sillett, all of Russellville; great-grandchildren, Caleb Nichols and Bella Nichols, of Lexington; sisters, Doris Andrew and husband, Kenneth, Mattie Bolton and husband, Bobby, and Addie Glasgow and husband, James; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The pallbearers were Nick Nichols, Bradley Nichols, Neal Nichols, Kenneth Woodrum and Tommy Glasgow.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Keller Hospice, Denise Berry, Machelle Williams, and Sue Landers. Thanks also to Northwest Alabama Cancer Center, Dr. Daugherty, Dr. Patel, Dr. Hagler and their staff.
Elvin A. Baggett

Elvin A. Baggett, 77, of Red Bay passed away on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 at Helen Keller Hospital. He was born Nov. 13, 1931 in Alabama to Arthur Austin and Sarah Upton Baggett. He was a city employee on the drain commission and a member of Pentecostal Faith Church.
Funeral services were held Oct. 27 at Pentecostal Faith Church with Bro. Jimmy Massey officiating. Burial was in Baggett Cemetery in Atwood, Ala.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elma Mae Baggett, of Red Bay; three sons, Randy Baggett and Christopher Baggett and wife, Laura, all of Red Bay, and Arther Baggett and wife, Wanda, of Adrian, Mich.; two sister, Edna Mathewus, of Red Bay and Pernie Cavender, of Haleyville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda Gail Baggett; and three sisters, Madge Humphres, Pauline Horton and Hazel Horton.
Donald E. Porter

Donald E. Porter, 83, of Russellville, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at Burns Nursing Home.
He was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and member of the Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville with Bro. McDougal officiating. Burial will follow in McWright Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.
Survivors include sisters, Fern Plylar, of Russellville, Mary Ruth Bolton, of Calera, Ala., Doris Lane, of Moulton; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Orda and Mable Allen Porter; sister, Reba Neal Porter.
