Red Bay warning sirens installed Melissa Cason

By Staff
RED BAY – The residents on Water Plant Road in Red Bay can rest easy now as the new weather siren has been installed and is already in use.
The siren is a big deal for the west end of the city because until now, they had no warning system at all.
"The new siren is located on West Ninth Street, known as Water Plant Road," City Clerk Linda Holcomb said. "Before now, residents on that side of the road had no warning system in place because they could not hear the other siren that serviced the city."
Mayor Bobby Forsythe said the new siren was given to the city courtesy of Sen. Roger Bedford.
While the siren is the most important to the city as tornado season rapidly approaches, it is not the only upgrade in the city.
Forsythe said the city received a $50,000 grant, administered through the Alabama Department of Economic Affairs (ADECA), for any project of their choosing.
Sen. Roger Bedford made the announcement last spring, and renovations at the landfill were recently completed.
Holcomb said the restrooms were renovated, and covering the unused portion of the landfill. Another project funded by the grant will be a multipurpose pavilion near the fun park.
Forsythe said the pavilion would be available for any outdoor event from reunion to hosting outdoor classes.
"We expect the pavilion to be completed by the end of January," Forsythe said. " Everyone should remember that the pavilion will belong to all the residents in Red Bay, and it's important that we take proper care of it so it will serve us for many years to come."
Forsythe said the grant projects aren't the only improvements on the way for Red Bay.
"We held a bid meeting for the sewer project, and we had 17 people in attendance," Forsythe said. "We are very optimistic about the sewer project."
While the sewer lagoon has been in compliance with the state for six months now, numerous renovations must be complete in order stay in compliance with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
