Lexington too much for RBHS

HUNTSVILLE – The Red Bay softball team fell one win short of reaching the state tournament as the Lady Tigers lost to Lexington 3-0 in the losers' bracket finals.
Red Bay had six runners reach base, but the offense could not push them across the plate.
Taylor Hester and Hannah Sharp had two doubles each while Holly Hammock singled.
Mariah Horton reached after a pitch hit her.
Whitney Sharp took the loss for Red Bay. She pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits and striking out three. She issued one walk.
It was the conclusion of a strange day for the Lady Tigers. In their opening game against Fyffe, Red Bay lost senior outfielder Lauren Williams when she collided with another player.
A trip to the hospital showed her jaw was broken in two places, but she returned to cheer on her teammates against Ider and Lexington.

The Lady Tigers fell to the losers' bracket of the North Region Softball Tournament with a 10-0 loss to Ider.
The Lady Hornets scored one run in each of the first three innings before blowing the game open with seven runs in the sixth.
Kirstin Sharp had the only hit for Red Bay, a single in the second, but she was caught stealing a few pitches later.
The offense struggled, striking out 12 times during the game.

Fyffe 2
Tied 1-1 in the fourth, Hannah Sharp scored on a bizarre play to give Red Bay the lead against Fyffe.
With two outs, Hannah Sharp was on third base when the Fyffe pitcher struck out Emily Cox, but the catcher dropped the ball.
The Fyffe players ran off the field thinking the inning was over, but Cox raced down the line and safely reached first base on the dropped third strike.
Hannah Sharp stole home on the play to put Red Bay ahead.
Horton scored in the sixth on a single by Hammock. Fyffe added one run in the seventh, but the Lady Tigers were able to hold on for the victory.
Whitney Sharp and Cox both doubled for Red Bay while Hammock, Hannah Sharp and Kirstin Sharp each singled.
