Important year in politics

This is an exciting year for political junkies.
The mayors and councilmen of all the municipalities of Franklin County are to be elected in August.
Qualifying will end on Tuesday for the municipal elections. If you would like to offer your services for mayor or councilman in these elections, now is the time to put your name on the ballot.
The runoff election for the county and state offices is upon us. The general election to determine who will be our new elected officials, as well as our next president, will be in November.
I urge you to know what the candidates stand for and vote for the candidate that represents your values.
Our government is a Representative Democracy, which means you elect representatives to act upon all governmental matters for you. This is why it is so important that we do not take this responsibility lightly.
Many of our forefathers have made great sacrifices that enable us to have our freedom to choose our representatives.
When you determine the best candidate who best represents your values, volunteer to help with their campaign. With many people helping in the election process, the candidates will be more enthusiastic and receptive to the ideas of their constituency.
We all benefit when more citizens participate in the election process. You will have a ball helping your friends in their campaign.
If you do not know a candidate personally, ask your friends about them.
You need to have all the information available when determining for whom you will cast your vote for.
We need to always vote for the most qualified and ethical person in the race.
When in doubt about who to vote, the person's character should be the determining factor when we cast our vote.
Remember the old adage, "If you stand for nothing, you will fall for everything."
